About the position

The IT Project Specialist 2 position at Arizona State University (ASU) is a full-time role focused on UX/UI design within the Academic Enterprise Communications (AE Comms) team. This position is pivotal in creating user-centered digital experiences that align with ASU's brand and strategic communication goals. The specialist will design interfaces for AI-generated content and tools, ensuring they are intuitive and accessible. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and a strong user research mindset to inform design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design user-centered experiences for various digital platforms, including websites and specialized interfaces for interacting with AI-powered content and tools.
  • Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs using industry-standard tools like Figma.
  • Conduct and contribute to user research efforts, including interviews, usability testing, surveys, and analysis of user behavior data.
  • Analyze user journeys and behavior patterns, identifying friction points and recommending design solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with content strategists, AI/ML Developers, AI Content Curators, and marketing leads.
  • Utilize analytics and A/B testing platforms to validate design hypotheses and iterate on experiences.
  • Present research findings and design recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Advocate for accessibility, responsive design, and UX best practices throughout the design process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field.
  • Proven experience conducting qualitative and quantitative UX research.
  • Proficiency in leading design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
  • Familiarity with research and analytics tools (e.g., Clarity, Hotjar, Usertesting, Google Analytics).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Basic understanding of AI concepts, machine learning workflows, or prompt design.
  • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrable interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in user experience.
  • Experience designing for complex systems or interactive tools.
  • Familiarity with principles of human-AI interaction (HAI) or designing feedback mechanisms.
  • Understanding of front-end development constraints and how design translates into code.
  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven environments.
