About the position

Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking the best talent for a Vice President, Global Upstream Marketing, Electrophysiology to join our MedTech organization located in Irvine, CA. The VP, Global Upstream Marketing is a strategic leader responsible for steering the vision and execution of our marketing initiatives with an emphasis on upstream product management. This role partners closely with the R&D/Innovation team to drive the development and commercialization of innovative products in catheters, hardware, software and digital solutions. In addition, this leader has responsibility for global brand management, portfolio messaging and clinical evidence marketing to ensure cohesive, compelling narratives across our product portfolio and competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global marketing strategy that supports the company's business goals and drives revenue growth.
  • Define and articulate the product vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and global commercial strategies.
  • Define and validate customer segment profiles, detailed clinical use cases, and procedural workflows that shape product design and positioning.
  • Serve as central conduit between key global markets and R&D pipeline, ensuring voice of customer insights drive differentiated, scalable innovation.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of products, from conception through development, launch, and post-launch performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, regions, and operations, to define product specifications, ensure alignment with real-world customer needs, and drive innovation.
  • Develop and maintain product positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies that effectively communicate the value proposition to target audiences.
  • Lead a team of marketing professionals, providing guidance and direction to ensure that all marketing initiatives are aligned with the company's overall goals.
  • Drive the cross-functional and cross-organizational delivery of the strategy and global product portfolio marketing plans, including value propositions, positioning, and segmentation.
  • Shape product development scenarios and drive optimal lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to conceptualize and launch new products.
  • Inform pipeline recommendations and priorities through robust global market insights and provide support to business development related opportunities.
  • Partner with broader commercial team globally to successfully deliver on business plans and implement global strategies in each region, driving global and regional alignment with focus on US/China/Japan/EMEA.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Program Management, Regional Marketing (US and OUS), Clinical and New Business Development for strategic plan formulation and execution.
  • Partner with downstream marketing and regional teams to ensure the voice of the market is reflected in launch strategies and pipeline execution.
  • Focus on the development of robust product narratives and leverage clinical data to support market claims.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to generate compelling clinical evidence that validates product efficacy, safety, and value.
  • Create messaging frameworks addressing competitive rebuttals and enhancing market narratives.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing marketing team.
  • Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement within the marketing function.
  • Develop and implement talent development strategies and programs that align with the organization’s goals and objectives and build strong talent bench within the global upstream marketing team.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to create career development plans and succession planning programs for high-potential employees.
  • Align closely with sales, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure cohesive and compliant marketing strategies.
  • Act as a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the overall corporate strategy.
  • Foster an environment of innovation, rigorous analysis, and cross-departmental collaboration to drive business growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., M.B.A.) is highly preferred.
  • 14+ years of relevant business experience in Marketing, General Management, Clinical research, or a related field is required.
  • Experience leading strategic global organizations strongly preferred.
  • Cardiovascular industry and clinical electrophysiology knowledge highly preferred with proven ability to learn complex technology/clinical applications.
  • The demonstrated ability to operate in highly complex, hybrid and diversified markets is required.
  • Possess the capability to stimulate innovation in Marketing through identification and communication of significant global unmet needs.
  • Solid understanding of clinical study requirements and experience with regulatory organizations globally is required.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with US sales and OUS commercial organizations to implement plans and successfully launch products.
  • Effective management in a large organization and the talent to act as an organizational change agent and leader are required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical abilities and skilled in using data to inform decision-making.
  • Possess product and clinical application expertise to both develop direct reports and communicate effectively with physician customers.
  • Proven behaviors as a strong partner and teammate, especially with functions including global education, R&D, commercial field leadership, regulatory affairs, clinical affairs and operations/planning/manufacturing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
  • Demonstrated change management success and ability to inspire and motivate large teams.
  • Broad business knowledge and P&L management experience, including strong financial skills, forecasting business plans and commercial expertise.
