About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and dedicated 1st Grade Teacher to join our team at the AMS Power Campus in Mesa for the 2026–2027 school year. The 1st Grade Teacher plays a key role in strengthening students’ early literacy, foundational math skills, and independent learning habits. The ideal candidate will create a structured and engaging learning environment that builds on the foundational skills developed in kindergarten while supporting students’ academic confidence and curiosity. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe that all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

  • Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Elementary Education OR
  • Valid Arizona teaching certification in Elementary Education OR
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
  • Additionally, candidates must:
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
  • Obtain an IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and Arizona academic standards.
  • Strengthen foundational skills in reading fluency, phonics, writing, and early mathematics.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students at varying skill levels.
  • Foster independent learning habits and critical thinking skills.
  • Maintain a structured and positive classroom environment with clear expectations.
  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and PLCs.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to strengthen instruction.
  • Contribute to school-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home–school partnerships.
