About The Position

About the Role & Program 20/20 serves as the premier news magazine program during prime time! The show delivers impactful investigative reports, interviews with prominent newsmakers, and engaging feature stories. Programming encompasses a weekly, 2-hour docu-style program that airs every Friday night, along with other longform news specials. Are you interested in researching true crime stories or developing investigative documentaries? An internship with our team might be the opportunity you may be looking for to explore long form journalism and these types of stories. The approximate dates of this internship are June 2026 through early January 2027. What You Will Do

Requirements

  • Experience with multi-tasking in a constantly evolving work environment, effectively balancing and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Experience working in collaborative environments, as well as working independently and following through on projects
  • Researching and/or using a range of tools to acquire information and present findings

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with past 20/20 content
  • Previous experience (academic or internship) in long form journalism
  • Previous internship experience in a professional newsroom setting
  • Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast) and/or long form journalism; and/or television, news and/or news media production or comparable professional experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Basic proficiency (academic or previous internship) with non-linear editing software (Avid specifically)
  • Major or previous coursework in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Film/Television or a related field preferred
  • Junior or Senior year preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the team in various aspects from development to air. This could include tasks such as assisting during breaking news situations, logging and transcribing media and various week of air responsibilities.
  • Participate in the preparation of filming interviews and b-roll for upcoming episodes – coordinating logistics and assisting the team on-site.
  • Provide support during the editing stage – including archival research and organization.
  • Assist in story development and research.
  • Learn and use internal ABC technical media search and management systems.
  • Contribute to the daily function of the office environment, including: handling mail, distributing digital media, and maintaining availability to the staff for their day-to-day production needs.
