An exciting opportunity exists for a college intern to join our engineering team at the Advanced Microelectronics Solutions Department (AMSD) at Raytheon in Andover, MA. AMSD develops, designs, and manufactures compound semiconductor devices, microwave/millimeter-wave integrated circuits, and modules for defense applications. The ideal candidate for this department is interested in semiconductor MMIC technology and may be utilized in the areas of test engineering, and/or wafer fabrication and MMIC manufacturing. The candidate should have strong academic credentials and experience working in a team environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate not only academic, but also interpersonal skills to help optimize our teams. The single most important attribute is an inquisitive nature and a strong desire to learn real world applications to complement the academic experience. Familiarity with hardware or software tools as appropriate for the candidate’s academic level is expected.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or graduate degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major.
  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree program and will be at minimum entering their freshman year by the start of summer 2026.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/coursework in one or more of the following: RF/microwave, Analog, Digital Electronics, Circuit Design or Analysis, Electrical Components, Electromagnetics
  • Lab experience specific to RF/microwave device and circuit measurements
  • Knowledge of electrical circuit design, analysis and troubleshooting using common lab equipment.
  • Experience in semiconductor wafer processing techniques
  • Technical working knowledge of electronic components (e.g. semiconductor, passive and/or electromechanical) and their application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fixtured and on-wafer RF/microwave/millimeter-wave measurements on GaAs and GaN devices, modules and MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits)
  • Assemble RF/microwave/millimeter-wave test systems
  • Use software to control test equipment and plot test results
  • Work in a cleanroom environment, handling GaAs and GaN wafers
  • Assist with various lithography, deposition, and etch processes
  • Perform and document optical microscope inspections and scanning electron microscope imaging
  • Failure analysis and Data analysis
