We are seeking an accounting intern to support processing, reporting and maintain APL financial data for General Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Billing and Accounts Receivable in accordance with internal practices and government regulations. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare and record daily transactions in APL's Oracle accounting ERP system. Your attention to detail is crucial to ensuring completeness and accuracy, compliance with internal policy and regulatory protocols, and delivery of high-quality service in a timely manner. Generate General Ledger account reconciliations and support the review of account activity to help ensure accurate financial reporting. You will assist with the preparation and processing of payments made to APL to ensure timely recording and reconciliation that is needed to support our business. We expect you to fulfill internal and external audit documentation. Your practical approach will be instrumental in offering ideas to improve information management activities affecting internal policy and external regulatory controls. Using your strong interpersonal and communication skills, we expect you to work with team members to investigate, analyze, and resolve outstanding financial data processing issues. Your analytical approach will also be instrumental in evaluating work processes and tools to offer ideas for improving accounting practices. You will perform other duties, as assigned, including support of internal data requests, Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit requests, among others. You may have the possibility to maintain part-time work during the school year based on performance, business needs, and class schedule.

Requirements

  • Are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Exhibit outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to collaboratively perform in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
  • Can effectively multitask, prioritize assignments, communicate progress, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a strong desire to learn and can easily adapt to changing environments.
  • Show proficiency in working with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • To access APL’s facilities and networks, US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience using data analytics and/or data visualization tools.
  • Have availability and are interested in continuing your internship on a reduced schedule throughout the academic year, based on performance, business needs, and your class schedule.
