The Position 2026 Summer Intern - CSI-Assay Bioinformatics We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. Department Summary The CSI-Assay Bioinformatics Department is committed to advancing healthcare and biotechnology through the development of innovative bioinformatics solutions. The department plays a pivotal role in clinical diagnostics and molecular assay development, with a focus on creating cutting-edge tools that make a global impact on patient care. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing software tools and ML/AI algorithms to support molecular clinical assay development. The team works collaboratively with multidisciplinary experts, including bioinformaticians and wet-lab scientists, to deliver state-of-the-art algorithms and tools that drive transformative solutions, advancing biotechnology and enhancing patient outcomes. This internship position is located in Pleasanton, on-site. The Opportunity Database Architecture: Design, model, and deploy scalable, efficient, and robust database structures to support large-scale biological datasets, analytical pipelines, and applications. Backend Development: Develop backend systems, logic, and APIs using programming languages such as Python, ensuring smooth integration with databases and applications. High-Performance Computing: Apply object-oriented programming, high-performance computing principles, and version control systems to design advanced data processing solutions. Frontend Integration: Ensure seamless connectivity between backend databases and web or frontend applications. Web Application Development: Build intuitive, user-friendly graphical interfaces using modern frontend frameworks. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June (Summer) A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Requirements

  • You meet one of the following criteria: - Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student). - Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program). - Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student). - Must have attained a Master's Degree.
  • Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Your expertise includes database architecture, relational database management systems (RDBMS), and designing and implementing database schema, optimizing databases for efficient data storage and retrieval (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • You are a proficient coder with advanced knowledge in Python and R, and strong foundations in object-oriented programming, alongside robust expertise in Linux-based systems, HPC environments, and version control systems such as Git.
  • You are skilled in developing front-end web applications with modern frameworks and integrating them seamlessly with back-end databases. Your capabilities include crafting intuitive interfaces for visualizing complex datasets.
