About Lean Manufacturing Performance within Indianapolis NPC Operations The Lean Team optimizes manufacturing by launching and refining operations through process robustness and quality improvements. They monitor production output, escalate bottlenecks, and lead efficiency-driven projects like facility space planning. By providing Lean training and managing high-impact initiatives—such as the Operations Readiness for new equipment and Value Stream Assessments—the team ensures we are ultimately driving higher output and streamlined workflows. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks full time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June (Summer). A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. Your Department Projects: As the Product Performance Intern, you will be fully embedded into the Global Operations & Quality team, interacting with various teams in a matrix environment. You will attend, support and/or plan team meetings and workshops to build and maintain an understanding of ongoing activities and projects You will investigate and drive further automation and simplification of current processes You will support teams to manage complex system structures and interfaces You will prepare a summary of learnings and point out improvement areas you discover You will work both autonomously and with others on engineering projects with the goal of achieving process and/or safety improvements, as well as cost savings.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Engineering (preferably Industrial, but would also accept other engineering disciplines) or Engineering Technology.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and/or previous experience with the application of lean manufacturing methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with process characterization, root cause analysis and process capability tools (i.e. DOE, FMEA, Fishbone Diagrams, SPC).
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and formulate effective solutions
  • Intermediate skills working with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and Google Tools

Responsibilities

  • Actively provide project support for process or product improvement initiatives.
  • Lead or support projects of significant scale, complexity or priority
  • Regularly communicate and work with cross-functional teams to assist in the development, review, and/or evaluation of information and findings related to Lean Manufacturing Performance.
  • Complete smaller tasks or assignments, as needed
  • Attend, support and/or plan team meetings and workshops to build and maintain an understanding of ongoing activities and projects
  • Investigate and drive further automation and simplification of current processes
  • Support teams to manage complex system structures and interfaces
  • Prepare a summary of learnings and point out improvement areas you discover
