The Position 2026 Summer Intern - System Development Intern We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. Department Summary The hired intern will help in creating and developing new sequencing technologies. Contributions to projects may include wet bench work, experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and scripting for automation and analysis. They will learn to use sequencing instrumentation and related instrumentation to facilitate the experimental work developing these systems. Technical knowledge from engineering and scientific disciplines will be used to develop new ideas and troubleshoot processes and hardware. They will conduct feasibility studies of the design to determine ability to function as intended. They will maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development. This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site. The Opportunity Perform a variety of sequencing and sequencing-related experiments on a daily basis, help analyze and interpret the data. Learn operation of the Roche Single Molecule Sequencing Platform. General support of diverse research and development activities. Pull from previous technical knowledge in the above disciplines to generate new ideas to improve the sequencing systems. Modify existing code or generate new code to analyze data or test new instrument protocols. Perform all work using best laboratory practices and maintain a well-organized and concise record of work performed and progress made. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks , full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June 2026. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. Who You Are Required Education You meet one of the following criteria: Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student). Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student). Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student). Required Majors: BioChemistry, Biomedical engineering, Biology, Chemistry. Required Skills: Previous laboratory experience required. Previous technical knowledge in one or multiple of the following disciplines is strongly preferred: molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, fluidics or microfluidics, mechanical engineering, and/or automation. Some computer scripting skills required (Python preferred). Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to work well in teams and across scientific disciplines is essential. The candidate should be passionate, self-motivated, and possess a strong desire to join an ambitious team developing a next generation sequencing platform.
