About The Position

The Rhodes School (TRS) is the only magnet Charter in Houston educating students through music and art. We are seeking a Summer School Enrichment Teacher to lead summer school classes. In this position, you will primarily work with students who have fallen behind in their academic level, which may require you to provide extra help or move at a slower pace or who are interested in new fine arts electives. You must also ensure that your students are active and engaged throughout the length of class. Our ideal applicant has prior experience working with students in a similar position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Teaching Certification preferred
  • Previous experience working with elementary-age students is preferred.
  • Communicate effectively, comprehends and understand communications
  • Knowledge of computers, for word processing and other basic tasks.
  • Able to accept and learn new and improved, education theories and techniques.
  • Able to interact effectively with co-workers, parents, volunteers, and others in the classroom.
  • Able to work with others using a team model and to follow basic teamwork principles.
  • Microsoft Office, Eduphoria, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies, and school law.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily lesson plans provided by Summer School Administrator
  • Track the progress of their students and create reports to inform parents of their progress
  • Lead lectures and hands-on activities
  • Assign homework to help your students learn the material
  • Administer quizzes and tests to measure their progress
  • Provide extra help to your students when necessary
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up as assigned
  • Distributes and collects materials for instruction.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  • Maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  • Maintain a Gradebook for all students and create a final summer school report card.
  • Attend GPC meeting for Final Grades and Student Promotion
  • Performs any additional duties related to the ongoing effectiveness of the school; as directed by the supervisor.
