Mercer University Athletics is searching for an Academic Advisor for Student-Athlete Support Services. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required along with prior experience advising and/or teaching in an athletic academic setting, which should include experience determining the eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
  • Knowledge of NCAA eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to intervene, advise and implement solution to assist in academic achievement of student-athletes.
  • Need to have the ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Understand advising process for collegiate student-athletes.
  • Ability to travel on university business and must be insurable by the university's carrier.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with a master's degree, and/or NCAA Division I athletic work experience are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an academic support person in determining NCAA progress toward degree eligibility and providing academic progress reports to coaches and administration.
  • Assist in preparation of NCAA and conference reports.
  • Mentor a diverse population of student-athletes in transition to college and implement plans to aid in academic achievement of student-athletes.
  • Assist in the recruitment process and academic orientation of student-athletes.
  • Work with software appropriate for academic advising and eligibility.
  • Counsel students on scheduling of classes to maintain eligibility and ensure academic success.
  • Work athletic events.
