About The Position

The Health Programs Advisor (HPA) position exists to support the Department of Health Programs Advising and Limited Entry in the day-to-day operations and delivery of the Engelstad School of Health Sciences Limited Entry Academic Program Admissions Procedures and Guidelines. The HPA provides reliable and objective advice, works with students to implement a personalized plan of study, identify available resources, and take corrective action(s) essential for academic success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health, Higher Education, Counseling, Educational Administration, Student Development or a related field from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years’ experience.

  • 2 years advising health sciences learners in a higher education setting.
  • Experience providing academic advising in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with diverse/multicultural student populations.
  • Experience working with community college students and/or at-risk adult student populations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Health Sciences Limited Entry Academic Program Admissions Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide developmental advising services rooted in best practices to first year students, undecided students, students on academic probation/suspension, and students in transition.
  • Knowledge of limited entry programs in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of Health Sciences careers and career opportunities.
  • Knowledge of all Health Sciences Programs at CSN, both Limited Entry and Open Entry.
  • Knowledge of course requirements and prerequisites for Health Sciences programs.
  • Knowledge of academic degree audits.
  • Knowledge of science courses and the content of each course.
  • Knowledge of number of hours required for a particular course (in class and study time).
  • Knowledge of degree requirement and transfer credits from other colleges/universities.
  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations as applicable to academic advising.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid eligibility requirements and exceptions.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress: Warning, Probation, Suspension, and Appeal Process.
  • Knowledge of Academic Progress: Warning, Probation, and Suspension Appeal process.
  • Knowledge of Student Reapplication to Program Procedures and Student Reinstatement to Program Procedures.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, OnBase, Canvas, Access, and other software programs.
  • Knowledge about institutional/school policies and procedures related to advising, health sciences, and limited entry, as well as veteran and international learners.
  • Knowledge about Student Service Support entities (Library, FA, Tutoring, Computer/Math Labs, etc.) for referral as necessary.
  • Knowledge of Health Science careers and career opportunities.
  • Skill in using MS PowerPoint to create presentations for recruiting events, informational events, and Health Programs Orientations.
  • Skill in using scheduling software (WCOnline)/other.
  • Skill in using computer programs for designing web pages, creating presentations, and creating PDF files.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling successful functioning in a team environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and a working knowledge of effective decision-making and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Ability to use best practices that promote college-success, skill-building, and learning strategies among college students leading to improved retention, persistence and timely graduation.
  • Ability to work with community college students, at-risk adult student populations, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to implement multiple assignments in order to sustain an extensive workload within a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through interpersonal, oral, and written communication to a broad constituency.
  • Ability to collaborate with all members of the College community.
  • Ability to work with diverse multicultural student/employee population(s).
  • Ability to multitask performing several administrative duties.
