The University of Virginia seeks applications for an Academic Support Program Coordinator to work as part of the STEM Support Services team. Our mission is to support students’ learning in gateway courses so that they are well-positioned to pursue STEM-related majors and post-graduation goals. More broadly, we aim to contribute to a collaborative, positive learning environment for students pursuing these goals. Our programs include Peer Led Learning (P2L), which is a supplemental-instruction style, collaborative group program, as well as Peer Academic Coaching (one-on-one, by-appointment support) and the Math Collaborative Learning Center (drop-in support for math courses), and our scope includes lower-division courses across biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. We are seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and self-starting team member who can coordinate day-to-day operations of one-on-one tutoring and group academic support programs. Our approach to our program offerings is to work closely with faculty to align services with their courses; consider on an ongoing basis whether we are meeting students’ needs; and to adapt and plan for the future. Thus, it is important that this team member be adaptable, comfortable with change, and dedicated to continuous improvement. Specific duties include but are not limited to: reviewing peer coaches’ session plans; support for delivery of group and one-on-one training; maintaining our online appointment/attendance system; contributing to assessment; communicating with peer coaches; responding to emailed questions from students and faculty; scheduling rooms and sessions; reviewing timecards; helping with recruitment and hiring. The STEM Support Services team operates out of the Georges Student Center in Clemons Library. The coordinator will occasionally provide support in the Center's spaces or assist with special events. The coordinator will report to the Associate Director for STEM Success. The Georges Student Center is a unit of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. This position will primarily work on site in the Georges Student Center, with some flexibility for working virtually about one day per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to observe sessions or hold meetings with student staff.
