About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Accountant at the Pinckneyville Correctional Center. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task oriented, has excellent organizational skills and shows great attention to detail. This position performs professional accounting and audit duties, utilizes the FACTS (Fund Accounting & Commissary Trading System) for locally held funds of the institution. Responsibilities also include recording requisitions and assists with month end inventories and closing for The Inventory Management System (TIMS) and maintaining monthly reports. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in Business Administration and Accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience in professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and/ or procedures.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience with office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines, and equipment.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience in detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience evaluating accounting problems.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience analyzing and interpreting accounting records and reports.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience performing detailed work involving written and numerical data.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of work experience making arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, either manually or by machine.
  • Prefers at least three (3) year of work experience in an office setting establishing and maintaining satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional accounting and audit duties.
  • Utilizes the FACTS (Fund Accounting & Commissary Trading System) for locally held funds of the institution.
  • Records requisitions and assists with month end inventories and closing for The Inventory Management System (TIMS).
  • Maintains monthly reports.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
