The Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling a variety of accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and supporting the Finance Department with day-to-day operations. This role involves processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. Starting Hourly Range: $29.27 - $30.24/hour DOE This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • 2 years of job-related experience. Related education may be substituted for experience on a 2:1 ratio (e.g. 2 months of education equals 1 month of experience). Required
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and compliance.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure proper classification of financial data.
  • Support payroll processing and reconciliations as needed.
  • Assist with preparing financial and management costs reports.
  • Assist with audits by providing support, preparing schedules, and answering questions.
  • Communicate with vendors, customers, stakeholders or process owners as necessary to advise and address issues or support internal operations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify discrepancies and work to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Serve as back-up for other accounting positions as needed.
  • Learn, adopt, and apply safety programs.
