About The Position

Assist the Activity Director by ensuring the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the activity programming for the Health Center residents and assuring that all State of Indiana Rules are followed and maintained in regard to Activity requirements.

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Experience with the elderly. Ability to use interpersonal skills to communicate with or motivate others and instill interests in activity for residents who might otherwise decline involvement or need one on one assistance with involvement. Ability to use proper writing skills for documentation. Employee must participate in orientation training, attend mandatory in-services and/or other department specified training in-services. Must have ability to supervise volunteers effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure/Certification: Indiana 90 hour Basic Activity Director’s Course (nice but not mandatory).

Responsibilities

  • Making sure that the facility is providing activities in such a manner that all State Rules & Requirements are being met on a daily basis, including evenings/weekends as assigned.
  • Acting as a liaison to Comprehensive Care Director of Activities to work out major problems/concerns.
  • Acting as the Primary Activity person and supervise volunteers in the Health Center/Memory/Rehab.
  • Coordinating appropriate documentation and record keeping by maintaining efficient and consistent evaluations of each resident to facilitate transfer between care areas.
  • Meeting with Health Center/Memory/Rehab staff as needed to facilitate communication of facility and department policies, State Surveyors Expectations, answer questions and hear concerns while offering guidance/direction/assistance, as necessary.
  • Providing a variety of creative and adaptable individual and/or group activities to meet the interests and abilities of the Health Center residents by providing small and large group activities in each Care area with continual adjustments as needed to reflect the interests and abilities of the current population.
  • Evaluating activities as to the success of meeting the criteria.
  • Completing appropriate Quality Assurance Audits.
  • Preparing and posting monthly activity calendars.
  • Maintaining proper communication with other staff/departments regarding residents and scheduled activities.
  • Interacting with residents and/or families when present.
  • Contributing to the interdisciplinary team by attending weekly Care Plan Meetings.
