About The Position

Spaulding Adaptive Sports Centers (SASC) provides children and adults of all levels of ability the opportunity to live active, healthy lives through participation in a variety of adaptive sports and recreational activities. Programs include seasonal land- and water-based offerings delivered in both individual and group settings. SASC operates across three regions—Cape Cod, Boston, and the North Shore—each overseen by a Regional Manager. Associates are hired into a specific region and report directly to the Regional Manager for that area. While regionally based, all programs are part of the larger SASC Network, and staff may collaborate across regions to support shared programming needs. Adaptive Sports Associates provide direct services to individuals with physical and/or cognitive impairments, functional limitations, or disabilities resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Associates facilitate adaptive sport and recreation programs, making equipment and instructional modifications to meet each participant’s abilities, goals, and safety needs. In addition to program delivery, Associates may work with volunteers, contribute to program development, marketing, outreach, and community education initiatives. A Lead Associate fulfills all responsibilities of an Adaptive Sports Associate while assuming additional leadership, mentorship, and operational responsibilities. The Lead Associate partners closely with the Regional Manager to support daily program operations, staff and program development, and ongoing quality improvement and safety initiatives. In this role, the Lead Associate serves as a mentor and role model for staff, students, and interns, and is expected to assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation. Lead Associates bring advanced sport-specific expertise and experience, and play a key role in fostering a collaborative, high-quality, and participant-centered program in a safe environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health or Adaptive Sports related field including but not limited to: Recreation Therapy, Adaptive Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Exercise Science/physiology, Kinesiology.
  • Valid driver’s license with no driving violations
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid, CPR, and AED
  • Prior experience working with people with disabilities (Required)
  • Adaptive Sport programming experience – 5+ Years (Preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels.
  • Excellent patient/customer service skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Foundational knowledge of adaptive sports principles and willingness to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with standard office software.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience across a variety of adaptive sports, including equipment use, care, and instruction in diverse environments.
  • Strong problem‑solving and planning skills, incorporating equipment adaptations and participant age, psychosocial, cultural, and religious considerations.
  • Ability to safely and independently perform all job duties while ensuring participant safety; demonstrates appropriate interaction with patients and families using principles of human growth, development, and family systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and support the development of staff, students, and volunteers, including self‑assessment of learning needs and professional goals.
  • High level of organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills when working with diverse populations across the lifespan.
  • Experience operating vehicles and towing equipment trailers.
  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse populations.
  • Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
  • Familiarity with cycling, bicycle mechanics and other equipment/tool use.
  • High level of service delivery.
  • Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports delivery of adaptive sport and recreation programs for participants of all ages and abilities, including session planning, equipment preparation, attendance tracking, and participant communication.
  • Reviews participant intake information to determine program and equipment needs; communicate with participants as needed to clarify information.
  • Prepares, maintains, and secures program facilities and equipment to ensure a safe, clean, and organized environment in accordance with established policies.
  • Completes administrative responsibilities related to registration, attendance, documentation, participant goals, and interdisciplinary team communication.
  • Provides orientation, training, and mentorship to employees, volunteers, and students, as appropriate.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Regional Manager regarding work progress, operational issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participates in meetings, trainings, and professional development activities to maintain current knowledge and best practices.
  • Operates Spaulding vehicles (vans and trailers) to transport equipment to program locations, as required.
  • Serves as liaison between regional manager, staff, students, and volunteers regarding program operations, client needs, and performance feedback; contributes to staff performance evaluations and continuing education.
  • Supports efficient program operations by working with regional manager daily for deployment of staff and volunteers to ensure efficient use of resources and coverage of program needs.
  • Supports regional manager with day to day operational leadership, including program scheduling, staffing coordination, daily operational briefings to review client assignments, equipment needs, adaptations, contraindications, safety considerations and documentation oversight (attendance, waivers, GRIDS, equipment fit forms).
  • Performs as a mentor and role model for staff, students, and volunteers, supporting competency development, program quality, and client safety in alignment with SASC and MGB best practices.
  • Maintains seasonal equipment inventory, maintenance, and lifecycle management to ensure safe functioning and effective program delivery.
  • Serves as on site resource for clients and families, including communication, leisure education, equipment funding support, and oversight of incident reporting and safety documentation.
  • Supports outreach, community partnerships, and student internship recruitment, onboarding, and supervision.
