About The Position

This is a part-time (adjunct) faculty position in the Department of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Cuyahoga Community College. Candidates will be interviewed and hired on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. The position involves performing a full range of academic, personal, career, and transfer counseling activities with diverse student populations. Responsibilities include assisting college students in developing academic and career goals, creating educational academic plans, and providing academic counseling. The role may also involve teaching General Studies courses and student success workshops as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate-level course hours in Counseling or Social Work.
  • One year of secondary or post-secondary experience in counseling.
  • Licensed/Licensed-Eligible from the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board or a state certification in school counseling.

  • Experience in higher education counseling in areas such as academic program counseling, transfer counseling, study skills, student assessment, career development, personal growth, and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Perform academic, personal, career, and transfer counseling activities with diverse student populations.
  • Assist college students in developing academic and career goals.
  • Create and develop educational academic plans for degree/certificate completion and/or transfer.
  • Identify and develop strategies and skills for adapting to the educational environment.
  • Provide academic counseling to students in academic curriculum areas.
  • Assist with New Student Orientations by providing individual academic counseling appointments and presentations.
  • May provide crisis intervention.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures or learning activities to students.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, and papers.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other records.
  • Be available to students for coaching.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with supervisors and divisions regarding teaching duties and training.

Benefits

  • $942.00 per Equated Semester Unit (ESU) pay rate.
  • Employment contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
