About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site in Killeen, TX, for the Social & Behavioral Sciences & Gerontology program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s): Technology in Contemporary Society (BEHS 103): An interdisciplinary introduction to the role of technology in contemporary society. The aim is to apply principles and concepts from a variety of social science disciplines (e.g., anthropology, sociology, psychology, and gerontology) to explore the influence of technology on society and the effect of technological change on our social lives, including our interpersonal relationships, work, culture, and society. Topics include the way technology changes relationships, the cumulative advantages and disadvantages associated with technology, digital natives versus digital immigrants, the pace of technological change, changes to the nature of how people learn and think, and the meaning of technology in society.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Social Science, or a related field, from an accredited institution of higher learning is required.
  • Professional experience in behavioral sciences or related field
  • Seeking instructors to teach specifically in Killeen, TX.

  • If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.
  • Each new faculty member is required to successfully complete our online two-week new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
