About The Position

For over 60 years, Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) has maintained a tradition of offering highly motivated adult learners an education that combines applied skills with professional knowledge, fostering personal transformation and positive change in workplaces and communities. MCNY is a private, nonprofit college accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The College is home to three schools: the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education , the School for Business , and the School for Public Affairs and Administration . Recognized as both a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) and a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), MCNY is dedicated to serving a significant percentage of students of color, particularly from underrepresented communities. Founded in 1964 by Audrey Cohen, an educational visionary and activist, MCNY’s mission has remained steadfast, emphasizing Purpose-Centered Education to empower students to achieve their academic and professional goals. School for Business Description School for Business is one of the three schools at MCNY overseeing the GOV CC 150 American Government (Pathway to Careers) course section(s). The selected adjunct professor will be serving under the School for Business in collaboration with other collegewide internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Government, Public Administration, or a JD
  • Previous college-level teaching, advising experience required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and pedagogical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with doctoral degree and required experience in similar fields of expertise will be preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and pathway to career program is preferred.
  • Experience with online teaching and learning platforms is desirable
  • A commitment to social justice and equity, as evidenced by previous teaching or volunteer work in the community, is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Teaching GOV CC 150 American Government undergraduate (Pathway to Careers) course section(s).
  • Updating syllabus, updating the LMS (Moodle course shell) course contents and updating course materials preferably with Open Education Resources (OER).
  • Allocate regular office hours on zoom and or in person and provide academic support to ensure student success.
  • Foster active learning in a face-to-face setting.
  • Timely student feedback, grading of assignments, tests, discussion forums, timely submitting final grades and attendance records, and participate in School for Business assessment activities including CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement).
