The Administrative Support Anatomic Pathology supports pathologists and pathology department as part of the administrative support team. Registers and accessions pathology consult cases in the electronic medical record (EMR). Facilitates movement of case material and legal documents for pathology review or consultation. Assists pathologists with documentation of report attributes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical and pathology terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, prioritizes, and oversees daily workflow, completion of assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Assumes responsibility for problem solving daily operations as needed
  • Assists leadership with quality reviews.
  • Takes action to implement corrective action when necessary.
  • Appropriately documents actions and informs leadership
  • Assists, initiates, institutes and/or completes special projects or duties as designated by the pathologist and/or leadership team
  • Oversees the maintenance of office equipment.
  • Acts as a resource in troubleshooting technical and equipment operations and initiates work orders, as necessary
  • Responds to Specialty Laboratory main entrance; acts as first point of contact for students, observers, job candidates, sales representatives, delivery personnel, and visitors
  • Answers department telephone calls and fields callers’ questions and concerns
  • Troubleshoots delays in case results and report errors
  • Acts as liaison between department and Network offices, as well as outside institutions, to facilitate movement of originated and non-originated case material and reports as necessary for coordination of patient care
  • Registers and accessions pathology consult cases in the EMR; assists with the registration and accessioning of surgical specimens, as needed
  • Requests and receives consult reports and case material from physician offices, offsite Network locations, and outside institutions
