About The Position

The University of Southern Indiana’s Undergraduate Admission office seeks applications for an Admission Counselor to provide information and counsel to prospective and newly admitted students concerning policies and procedures as well as evaluating the students’ educational and career goals. In addition, counselors will assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and recruitment program designed to meet enrollment objectives and budgetary goals within assigned territory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in both a counseling and public relations capacity with prospective students and the community.
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Organizational ability, high energy, and creative initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of computers, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software required.
  • Valid driver’s license, or alternate means of reliable transportation, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous admission, higher education, and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the offerings of the University and an understanding of the mission of the University is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Implement a comprehensive recruitment plan in the assigned territory.
  • Activities may include but are not limited to high school visitation, community college visitation, college fair participation, and personalized communication (telephone and email).
  • Review applications and credentials for admission to the College.
  • Interview and counsel prospective students and their families regarding admission policies and procedures.
  • Establish and regularly monitor measurable goals and objectives.
  • Counsel students and parents through the decision-making process including academic major choice, co-curricular activities, housing, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and on-campus participation in traditional events.
  • Mediate relations between the university and the incoming student and high school counselors.
  • Provide information on academic offerings, and student services of the University while evaluating the educational and career goals of the student.
  • Serve as liaison with assigned University college/school(s) and/or campus offices and departments to coordinate recruitment efforts.
  • Assist with other responsibilities, special programs, and projects on and off campus as assigned by the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
