About The Position

The Echo Sonographer II Registered is a specialized role responsible for performing all procedures and functions of an Echo Sonographer with a high level of expertise in complex pediatric cardiac anatomy, congenital defects, and surgical corrections. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to produce superior quality exams and provide detailed presentations of congenital lesions in various clinical settings, including highly stressful situations involving uncooperative patients or critical abnormalities. This role requires minimal supervision and involves active participation in departmental performance improvement processes, training new staff, and maintaining lab protocols.

Requirements

  • Education: Minimum of a High School diploma or GED.
  • Specialized Training: Completion of an accredited CVT or echocardiography program, OR an Associate's degree with an emphasis on natural science, OR 10 years of experience as a Registered Echo Sonographer.
  • Certification: Must hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Registration: Must be registered as an R.D.M.S. (Cardiology specialty), R.D.C.S., or R.C.S..
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience with demonstrated scanning ability.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology, with specific competency in pediatric views and pathology.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift a minimum of 50 pounds, maneuver patient weight (pushing/pulling), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Core Skills: Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for medical applications, advanced English oral and technical writing skills, and the ability to make fast decisions under high pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Imaging: Perform 2-D, M-mode, and routine Color, Pulse, and Continuous Wave Doppler studies for both adult and pediatric patients according to specific lab protocols.
  • Advanced Procedures: Assist physicians during Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) procedures, including the cleaning and disinfection of TEE probes.
  • Stress & Contrast Studies: Conduct echocardiograms during exercise or pharmacological studies and accurately demonstrate the need for, prepare, and potentially inject contrast agents.
  • Clinical Communication: Address critical pediatric abnormalities with off-site Cardiologists to ensure effective care and utilize professional verbal and written communication with all stakeholders.
  • Documentation & Systems: Accurately complete technical reports, patient logs, and medical records in the CareNet system.
  • Operational Duties: Participate in the departmental case review process, collect Performance Improvement (PI) data, and help orient and train new employees.
  • Flexibility & On-Call: Rotate between campus locations as needed and participate in the on-call rotation, responding to pages appropriately.
