About The Position

Central Maine Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its Critical Care team in Lewiston, Maine. This role supports intensivists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The APP will function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary critical care team, providing comprehensive patient management, performing procedures, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and specialists to optimize patient outcomes. Central Maine Medical Center is a regional referral hospital serving central and western Maine. Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Maine licensure as an NP or PA (or eligibility for licensure).
  • National certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity, team-based environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Critical care or ICU experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the ICU setting.
  • Conduct patient assessments including history, physical examinations, and ongoing clinical evaluations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with attending intensivists and the critical care team.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions affecting critically ill patients including respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation assistance, and other ICU-related procedures consistent with credentialing and training.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory results, imaging, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Coordinate care with consulting services, nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care planning.
  • Document patient encounters and clinical decisions accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
