Organization: Infectious Disease - Admin 30 Job Summary: The NP or PA in the acute care hospital setting works in close collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary infectious diseases health care team. The NP or PA functions as a consultant in an inpatient setting, managing the care of acute/complex chronically ill patients seen in consultation by the General ID consult teams. The NP/PA is typically on a service aligned team providing consultative patient care. The NP/PA has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care. The NP/PA demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. This position includes 40 hours per week providing direct clinical care to inpatients, Monday through Friday, with opportunities for optional weekend shift work for salary enhancement. . BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (NP) Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required) < 1 year experience. 12 months of nursing experience preferred; Inpatient acute care nursing experience desirable. (Required) Registered Nurse (Required) Prefer National Specialty Board Certification, APN certificate/certificate of fitness to prescribe, eligible for DEA BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (PA): Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) (Required) < 1 year experience. 12 months of physician assistant experience preferred; Inpatient acute care advanced practice Nursing experience desirable. (Required) Certified Physician Assistant (Within 3 months) Prefer National Specialty Board Certification, TN license through Board of Medical Examiners Committee on Physician Assistants, Eligible for DEA within 3 months DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Department of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases is dedicated to enhancing the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases through discovery and application of new knowledge that is integrated with the mentorship of trainees to become the next generation of national leaders in the field. Requirements

  • Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)

  • 12 months of nursing experience preferred; Inpatient acute care nursing experience desirable. (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Triages new consults to the appropriate general ID consult team
  • Attends and participates in daily rounds with the ID consult team
  • Performs and documents in the medical record a complete history and physical examination for hospitalized acute and complex chronically ill adult patients.
  • Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Diagnoses new problems and updates treatment plans for existing diagnoses
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulates differential diagnoses by priority.
  • Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions
  • Formulates Plan of Care, in conjunction with the Infectious Diseases Consult team attending
  • Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulates and documents a plan of care to address infectious disease-related health care needs.
  • Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines or protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum.
  • Recommends diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with the primary health care team.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the outpatient continuum of care.
  • Documents/dictates key components of patient's progress via intake and routine follow-up progress notes, acute/urgent visit progress notes, and other clinic notes where applicable.
  • Documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards and captures patient acuity.
  • Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including: preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of students, nursing staff, nurses, graduate and novice nurse practitioners.
  • Seeks opportunities for the analysis of evidenced based practice.
  • Actively participates in Infectious Diseases conference, staff meetings, division conferences, and other opportunities for continuing medical education
  • Maintains CEUs, and membership in a professional organization.
