About The Position

Provides professional medical care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic/hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a PA-C or NP in the state of North Carolina and DEA license
  • Availability to take infrequent outpatient phone calls one weekend per month.
  • Must be able to work independently (under indirect supervision).
  • Have at least one year of post-graduate experience as a provider in a pulmonary, urgent, immediate, emergency, primary care, or related setting.
  • Must have experience and knowledge of an EMR system, voice dictation (Dragon) and strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.
  • Can use strong clinical judgment to determine when a supervising physician should be consulted.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a focus on not turning any patient away before exhausting all reasonable options.
  • Value working in a team-oriented, patient-centric culture.

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be proactive in discussing case management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with consults and daily visits. Sees follow-up patients in clinic. (Primarily COPD, Asthma, SOB, Sleep Apnea).
  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Establishes presumptive diagnosis.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment.
  • Administers injections, immunizations, and oral medications.
  • Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Available for outpatient call one weekend per month. Shares equally with other providers. Currently 1 in 4.
  • Utilizes practice/hospital guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physician(s) in providing medical care to patients.
