About The Position

The Summer Advocate provides dedicated 1:1 support to an assigned camper with identified developmental, behavioral, social emotional, or physical needs within the Early Childhood Camp program. This position plays a critical role in promoting meaningful inclusion, fostering independence, and supporting safe, successful participation in all camp experiences. The assigned camper may only attend camp when the Advocate is present. Consistent daily attendance and reliability are essential. This role is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in education, psychology, child development, social work, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, or related fields. Advocates gain hands on experience supporting inclusive practices within a structured early childhood environment. Advocates receive guidance and supervision from the Supportive Services Manager, and will gain exposure to inclusive practices within a structured early childhood setting. The Advocate works closely with camp staff and the Supportive Services Manager to implement individualized support strategies while ensuring the camper remains fully integrated into the camp community. Our Early Childhood Camps prioritize inclusion, belonging, and the celebration of diverse learners within our Jewish community. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with young children required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, flexibility, and professionalism required
  • Ability to work in an active indoor and outdoor camp environment
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Advocate must participate in required staff training and meet with their assigned camper and family prior to the start of camp to support a smooth and successful transition
  • Must be available for the full camp session, including required staff training prior to camp opening

Nice To Haves

  • Current college students or graduates in education, psychology, child development, or related fields strongly encouraged to apply
  • Experience supporting children with diverse learning or developmental needs preferred

  • Implement individualized strategies and accommodations as directed
  • Adapt materials or activities to promote meaningful participation
  • Support positive peer interactions and facilitate social engagement
  • Utilize positive reinforcement and co regulation strategies to support emotional regulation
  • Encourage independence and gradually fade support when appropriate
  • Maintain camper safety and supervision at all times
  • Communicate and collaborate consistently with camp staff and supervisors
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Adhere to all camp safety policies and mandated reporting requirements
