Under general supervision, lead and perform the activities for the installation, removal, testing, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic metering devices and auxiliary equipment (utilized on most industrial and commercial customers and high voltage transmission metering systems requiring current transformer (CT) service). Assists in the design, documentation and review of complex metering schemes for varying customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, tools and equipment in testing electrical and electronic metering devices
  • Knowledge of installation and maintenance of electric Transmission; Distribution and Generation Metering Systems
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and basic PC skills
  • Knowledge of the laws, theories, rules and standards pertaining to electrical metering
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of Austin Energy's Transmission; Distribution and Generation Systems
  • Knowledge in Austin Energy standards and work procedures
  • Knowledge of all relevant safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of communications and software applications
  • Knowledge of industry's meter specifications and standards
  • Skill in interpretation of technical drawings
  • Skill in speaking, writing, listening, mediating, negotiating, and conflict resolution
  • Skill in use of tools & various types of test equipment required to test and calibrate electric & electronic meters
  • Ability to train others and work in team environment
  • Ability to bend, climb, crouch, lift, walk, carry or use a force equal to lifting fifty pounds or greater.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years' Experience in a field related to the job.
  • Thirty semester hours of college credit in power technology, electronics, communications technology, engineering technology, industrial technology or related field may substitute for one year of the general required experience with a maximum substitution of two years.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing, maintaining, trouble shooting and replacing single phase self-contained and instrument rated (CT) electric meters.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, trouble shooting and replacing three phase self-contained and instrument rated (CT) electric meters.
  • Experience using Electric Office (EOweb) and Oracles Customer Care & Billing (CCB).
  • Experience using Landis & Gyr Grid Stream-Command Center and ADMS Field Client.
  • Experience using Oracles Mobile Workforce Management (MWM) system.
  • Experience using a portable three phase electric metering test equipment such as a RADIAN RW-30.
  • Experience leading and training other meter electricians.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain electric Transmission, Distribution and Generation Metering Systems
  • Develop daily work schedule and train personnel in performance of job duties.
  • Attend technical presentations, including training sessions.
  • Train others in use of procedures, special tools, and computer equipment used in preventive maintenance and programming of electronic meters
  • Use tools & various types of test equipment required to test and calibrate electric & electronic meters
  • Interpret/explain/enforce all Austin Energy/COA and OSHA safety rules and regulations with zero tolerance for violations
  • Interpret/explain/enforce City policies and procedures, building codes, specifications, and ordinances.
  • Proficiently use a computer to program, interrogate and troubleshoot electric metering devices
  • Create and use tabular and graphical spreadsheets, databases, and office applications
  • Maintain accurate documentation of daily work transactions related to customers and metering
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while working alone or in a team
  • Plan/organize/implement test procedures and design standards
  • Responsible for leading and training other meter electricians.
