About The Position

The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin Space OVERVIEW: Space is entering a new era—and Lockheed Martin Space is helping lead it. Our engineers, scientists, and innovators are solving some of the world’s most complex technical challenges while building the spacecraft and technologies that protect nations, advance discovery, and expand what’s possible beyond Earth. At Lockheed Martin, your work has real impact. Every day our teams design and deliver satellites and spacecraft that: Provide early warning for severe weather and global threats Connect troops and critical missions across the globe Enable GPS navigation for billions of people Support exploration and scientific discovery beyond our planet But going to space is just the beginning. What matters most is what happens once we get there. We’re developing the next generation of intelligent satellites—spacecraft that operate like “smartphones in orbit,” with software that can be updated in flight to adapt to changing mission needs. These innovations are redefining what’s possible in space. If you’re driven to solve hard problems, push technical boundaries, and contribute to missions that truly matter, we want you on our team. Lockheed Martin Space — Your Mission is Ours. What does this role look like? As an Aeronautical Engineer, You Will:

Requirements

  • 8 years of professional work experience performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for Aerospace vehicles
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, analysis, or experimentation of high speed aerodynamics
  • Experience in leading or supervising research activities
  • Experience or a strong educational background in some/all the following disciplines: hypersonic aerodynamics, gas dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, and computer programming (C/C++, Matlab, Python)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, thus US citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solvers used by NASA for entry vehicles, e.g. FUN3D, Loci/CHEM,
  • Prior experience developing and analyzing hypersonic thermochemically reacting flow fields.
  • Strong mathematical and analytic skills
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal, be self-motivated, and be able and willing to support multiple projects
  • Expertise in using the following software packages for grid generation and CFD similar to: Pointwise, Fluent, ANSA and TecPlot. Experience with Missile configuration design and pre and post flight missile performance analysis.
  • Experience in planning and conducting wind tunnel tests.
  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools to the design and analysis of flight vehicles and space systems
  • Perform CAD geometry manipulation, meshing, solution setup, and execution on local and remote Linux-based computing clusters
  • Conduct post-processing of simulation data, generating engineering datasets, plots, and visualizations to support analysis and decision-making
  • Analyze complex fluid flow phenomena, including compressibility, turbulence, and heat transfer effects
  • Perform aerodynamic and fluid dynamic analyses supporting missile systems, launch vehicles, re-entry vehicles, and satellite platforms
  • Develop technical documentation and engineering memos, providing recommendations to support design decisions and program milestones
  • Present analysis results to internal engineering teams, program leadership, and customer representatives during technical interchange meetings and program reviews
  • Support program schedules and critical milestones, with occasional extended hours during key test or analysis activities
