About The Position

We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and responsible After School Care and Camp Counselor to lead and engage with children in a safe, positive, and fun environment. The counselor will plan, implement, and supervise a variety of recreational and educational activities, while providing excellent care and guidance to children during after-school hours and seasonal camps. This role requires strong communication, leadership, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in education, child development, recreation, or related fields is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a camp, after-school, daycare, or educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and engage with groups of children in a variety of settings.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
  • Creative, enthusiastic, and adaptable with a passion for child development and recreation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends.
  • Physical ability to participate in activities, including standing, walking, and engaging in active play indoors and outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children during after-school care and camp programs.
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, outdoor activities, and educational projects.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment that promotes children’s social and emotional growth.
  • Help with homework and educational support as needed during after-school hours.
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering strong and trusting relationships with children, parents, and team members.
  • Enforce safety rules, program policies, and behavior management strategies consistently and appropriately.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about their child’s experiences, behavior, and any concerns that arise.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of program spaces, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Assist in setting up, taking down, and storing materials, equipment, and supplies used during activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other counselors and staff members to plan and execute special events, field trips, and seasonal camp activities.
  • Complete required training sessions and adhere to all organization policies and state regulations.
