About The Position

The Visser Family YMCA’s Impact After School Program is an exciting and unique partnership between the Y, Grandville, Jenison and Hudsonville Public School systems, and corporate and foundation donors. In our Impact After School Program, youth are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Every day students come to a safe and engaging environment at the Y and have access to tutoring and homework assistance, health and fitness activities, mentoring, a healthy meal, and so much more. POSITION SUMMARY: After School Program Teachers provide a reliable, safe, and fun environment for students to unwind from their school day. The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, developing, and implementation of classroom activities. School year schedule: Monday - Thursday, 2:30 - 6:00 PM Summer schedule: Monday - Thursday, 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college in a youth development related field, or current enrollment in degree program required.
  • Six months to one year youth development related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
  • Ability and desire to work with school age children.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

Responsibilities

  • Plans and leads daily lesson plans
  • Organizes and participates in games and activities
  • Provides weekly lesson plans to parents
  • Provides each participant’s parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis
  • Prepares materials for daily activities
  • Maintains records of attendance and arrival and departure times
  • Maintains supervision of children
  • Conducts parent-teacher conferences at least annually
  • Maintains the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
  • Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association
