About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and proactive Afterschool Support Specialist to support our Refugee Youth Services Program. This role is essential in supporting our youth services afterschool program and summer camps that are designed to engage and empower refugee youth and families. The support specialist will assist with afterschool transportation and coordination, as well as supporting our Youth Services Specialist with field trips, summer camp, and home visits when necessary. Position Details: Part Time position Refugee and Immigration Services – reports to Youth Services Manager Position located in Savannah, GA Mostly in-person position with some local travel Monday through Friday; 4:00PM – 7:00PM (up to 20 hours per week; hours may change during summer and according to planned trips and activities) $18-$20/hr The Part-time Afterschool Support Specialist role detailed in this description is not a comprehensive list of all duties that may be requested for the successful completion of this role and may garner some circumstantial duties deemed critical to meeting performance goals.

Requirements

  • Passion for working with refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment and high level of cultural competence
  • Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change
  • Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner
  • Excellent computer skills, accurate typing, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Must own a personal multi-passenger vehicle, hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license, have a good driving record, and have appropriate personal auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, Education, International Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth in educational or community settings.
  • Multilingual abilities, especially in languages commonly spoken by refugee communities, are a plus.
  • Previous experience in event planning, mentoring, or community outreach

Responsibilities

  • Transports students to and from after-school Monday through Thursday.
  • Assist in organizing and running activities for refugee youth, including attending field trips and events and coordinating transportation.
  • Help develop partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, and volunteers to enhance programming and resources.
  • Participate in home visits alongside to provide outreach and support to refugee families.
  • Track attendance, participation, and other relevant data for reporting purposes.
  • Tutoring, planning lessons and leading lessons during our afterschool/summer programming
  • Collaborate with the Refugee Youth Services team to ensure programming is culturally responsive and trauma-informed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
