How You’ll Make this Internship Opportunity Your Own Our Data Scientist & AI/ML Engineer intern will join our mission-driven team supporting federal health initiatives. This role is ideal for a soon-to-be graduate with strong academic credentials and experience in client relations, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration—ready to apply their skills to real-world challenges in public health, informatics, and predictive analytics. The candidate will contribute to a range of high-impact projects, including health informatics, predictive modeling, and program evaluation. Education and/or Experience Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field, with strong academic performance and advanced coursework in machine learning, data science, applied statistics, and algorithm design or related field. Proven expertise in applying advanced tools and methodologies across various domains, including statistical modeling, experimental design, and the creation of publication-quality data visualizations. Technical experience in Python, R, SQL, Java, and C++, as well as analytical skills in Excel. Research experience in AI disclosure, risk analysis, user experience, and regulatory compliance, with demonstrated ability to interact with diverse users to assess and analyze needs. Experience in consulting, project leadership, and process optimization with proven ability to manage client relations and foster collaboration. Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, R, Java, and C++ with strong practical knowledge of Excel for data processing and analysis. Experience in consulting, client engagement, and process improvement, excelling in cross-functional collaboration. Research expertise in AI disclosure, labeling, and compliance, with a focus on user experience and regulatory frameworks. Solid understanding of data structures, statistical modeling, and data visualization. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to synthesize and present complex ideas to stakeholders. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Support federal health initiatives through AI, data analysis, and policy-driven decision-making. Conduct data curation, preprocessing, integration, and visualization using Python, R, and SQL to support research and decision-making. Analyze large and complex datasets from diverse sources, ensuring accessibility and usability for internal teams and stakeholders. Conduct and synthesize user research, including analyzing AI disclosure and regulatory compliance, to improve public health outcomes. Internship or research experience in software development or AI/ML research. Support development of dynamic visualizations and dashboards using tools like Tableau to communicate insights effectively. Engage with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive collaboration, optimize processes, and deliver data-driven solutions. Develop scripts and automation tools to streamline data analysis, reporting, and visualization tasks. Stay current with emerging trends in AI, machine learning, and data science, contributing to team knowledge and innovation. Present research findings, data visualizations, and project updates to clients and team members to foster transparency and shared understanding. Support documentation and project deliverables in alignment with federal guidelines and performance standards. Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills in both technical and non-technical environments. GDIT interns are paid and full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks.
