About The Position

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023): Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. Additional Requirements: The Maintenance Controller performs administrative duties using computer, and other associated equipment within maintenance control. Assigns project/priority codes and directs cannibalization actions to meet the unit’s maintenance plan and daily flight schedule. Monitors maintenance schedules for accuracy and completion. Skill and Knowledge: Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Organizational Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below: Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold, Hydraulic/Pneumatic, mechanical Flight Control Systems, Power Plants and related Sub-Systems, Fuel and Air Systems, Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems, Rotor Systems, Flight Control Systems, Transmission Drive Systems, Avionics/Electrical Systems and related Sub-Systems, and Aircraft Logs and Records Administration Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures. Aircraft Mechanic III shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures. Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance. Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications. Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records. Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems. Responsibility: Performs requirements in accordance with the procedures established in the PWS. Performs diagnosis and corrective actions, disassembles, inspects, evaluates, and accomplishes necessary repairs, lays out work according to technical instructions and technical directives. Determines what repairs, modifications, and part replacements are required. May be required to verify work performed by another for which he/she is qualified to perform.

Requirements

Six or more years’ H-1 rotary wing experience.
Six years Aviation Maintenance experience
Six or more years’ experience with NALCOMIS/OOMA
Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management for Optimized Organization Maintenance Activity course (C-555-0053) or if previously completed, both the Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management course (Course D/E-555-0040) and the Naval Aviation Officer and Senior Supervisor NALCOMIS OOMA Familiarization course (Course D/E-555-0054).
Four or more years’ experience working in Maintenance/Production Control as a Controller.
Must be able to work shift schedules as required per Performance Work Statement (PWS)
Must be able work work-week schedules i.e. M-F, Sn-Th or as required per PWS
Basic Corrosion Control Course.
Must be able work flexible work-week schedules as required.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC).
Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check Local Records Check and Credit (NACLC) or Access National Agency Check with written Inquiries (ANACI) resulting in eligibility for a SECRET clearance which shall be required of employees assigned to perform:
Maintaining H-1 Avionics Systems.
Handling and/or storage of COMSEC equipment.
Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
Must be able to use hand and power tools.
Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
Must be eligible for Common Access Card (CAC).

Familiarity and ability to use NAVAIR IETMS.
Safe for Flight (SFF) qualification in H-1 aircraft

Automated Track and Balancing System (ATABS) Course (NATEC provides)

Responsibilities

Performs duties as Team Lead
Performs Maintenance Control duties
Familiar with duties assigned to all personnel within the Maintenance Control Work Center. Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions.
Screens completed VIDS/MAFs for correct entries and data. Maintain Aircraft Discrepancy Book (ADB) in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series.
When qualified and assigned by the Maintenance Control Supervisor, assists in scheduling aircraft into the maintenance program to ensure maximum availability of assets.
Coordinates the daily flight schedule and configuration requirements with duty and applicable work centers.
Coordinates and screen Daily/Turnaround and special inspections as well as component and hi-time requirements to ensure aircraft are current for the flight schedule.
Performs duties as Liaison with base personnel for other requirements to include but not limited to fueling / defueling operations, fire department and etc.
Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, launch and recover aircraft, and Preventive Maintenance Daily Inspections.
Performs aircraft maintenance functions of the Line, Corrosion Control, and Aircraft Organizational Level maintenance
Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance support for assigned H-1 aircraft
Performs aircraft Daily Turn Around Inspections
Performs aircraft launch and recovery operations
Performs inspection, disassembly, repair, servicing, TD compliance, modification, assembly, corrosion control, preservation/de-preservation
Maintain aircraft and aeronautical equipment to continuously support the assigned readiness posture outlined in in the activities plan and daily flight schedule
Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, pneumatic, hydraulic, ventilation and heating, flight surfaces and controls, dynamic components, and powerplant systems.
Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment, and sets kits and outfits (SKO).
Inspect, repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft components/sub components to include rigging of flight control.
Read and interpret manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
