About The Position

Elliott-Lewis is seeking a Airfield Mechanic to assist with airport operations. Our objective is to support the airport with inspections on the airfield lighting equipment and ensure that it meets the required standards for safety, performance, quality, and standardization. Lights that illuminate an airport’s runway are critical to operations and these lights are regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airfield Mechanic will need to ensure that the lightbulbs embedded into all tarmacs are securely bolted into place, fully operational, and not cracked or damaged. The Airfield Mechanic role is often outdoors in all weather conditions. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections of the lighting fixtures which are embedded into the airport runways, taxiways, and other tarmacs. At conclusion of each daily inspection sign off to indicate a full inspection was conducted.
  • Physically tighten the bolts with a torque wrench on these lighting fixtures to ensure they remain firmly in place.
  • Utilize the safety practice of “lock out, tag out” to install replacement light bulbs for lights that have burnt out or started to dim.
  • Update work logs to indicate when a repair was made to a lighting fixture.
  • If a damaged lighting fixture is identified, record which light fixture is damaged and report the finding to a supervisor for repair to be ordered.
  • During inspections of light fixtures, communicate with your team if other abnormal objects or items are found such as loose materials, ice or snow, trash or litter, misplaced signage, wildlife, or other objects.
