MISSION STATEMENT: To assist the Operating Room anesthesia staff in providing quality nursing service to the patients/customers of Ohio County Healthcare, holistically addressing physical, educational, mental, emotional, cultural, social and spiritual needs by utilizing the nursing process. PURPOSE OF JOB: The anesthesia Tech will assist the anesthesia team before, during and following patient procedures in various operating rooms. This position works collaboratively with Anesthesia, Nursing staff, and off-site resources. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: High stress environment, exposure to blood , body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation and repetitive motion. Could come in contact with sharp instruments. Lifting may be required ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Participates as assistant to Anesthesia for procedures in the Operating Room including Inpatient and PACU. Performs all procedures according to established policies and procedures of OCH and adheres to legal compliance policies and other regulatory issues. Frequently access e-mail to stay up to date on new information within the organization and provides a way of communication between the staff.bew Preoperative Ensure anesthesia carts are supplied and machines are in each room prior to the beginning of the surgery schedule and between procedures Checks and replaces anesthesia gas tanks as needed Retrieve special anesthesia supplies that are anticipated and/or requested by the person administering the anesthetic before and during surgery Prepares complex equipment and supplies for hemodynamic monitoring. This may vary based on location and may include peripheral arterial and pulmonary artery catheter+ transducers, EKG, pulse oximeter and nerve stimulators. Ensures monitoring equipment and supplies are ready Ensures the anesthesia machine is ready for use including troubleshooting and correcting problems. May perform daily anesthesia equipment inspections including suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen and nitrous oxide cylinders. May assist in positioning patients for procedures. May obtain necessary medications under the direction of anesthesia personnel from Omnicell. Intraoperative: Assist in dressing and securing IV’s and Arterial lines Assist Anesthesia during intubation and extubating procedures as directed and under the supervision of the anesthesia personnel Restock all used supplies as needed during surgery Dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment in accordance with general operating policies and procedures and manufacturers' recommendations concerning biohazardous waste Maintain awareness of physiological parameters and baselines of patients during surgery Postoperative Clean anesthesia equipment in the operating room and outside locations following each procedure following g cleaning policies and procedures an manufacturer recommendations. Clean, maintain and package used anesthesia materials and equipment Inventories and orders anesthesia supplies Run errands as requested by anesthesiologist/CRNA/Charge nurse/other team members as appropriate to facilitate the preparation and conduct of anesthesia. Perform additional duties as requested by other team members Assist with turnovers Trouble shoot broken equipment and fix as directed by biomedical staff Maintains and continues professional self-development and exhibits positive human relations.
