Provides clinical support to the anesthesiology service by participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team under the supervision of a licensed professional. Proactively supports efforts to maintain efficiency, minimize delays, and ensure delivery of safe patient care. Inventories, cleans, and maintains anesthesia equipment and supplies necessary to meet departmental need. Requirements

  • No minimum experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  • Department-defined competencies within six months of employment
  • Knowledge of anesthesia supplies and equipment, and environmental cleaning
  • Ability to work well with diverse team members
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize workload using critical thinking skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, show initiative and flexibility, and demonstrate team cohesiveness

Nice To Haves

  • Prior healthcare experience
  • One year of experience as an Anesthesia Technician
  • Knowledge of anesthesia equipment and/or supplies

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult ALL = all ages.
  • Reads operating room schedule, anticipates anesthesia equipment and/or supply needs, and prepares the anesthetizing sites for the commencement of anesthesia.
  • Facilitates room turnover for cases to follow, including cleaning and preparation of anesthesia equipment and anesthesia components.
  • Sets up, inventories, and restocks anesthesia carts and machines, anesthesia agents and IV fluids to ensure all items are readily available.
  • Inventories, orders, and maintains supplies for the anesthesia service consistent with departmental demand.
  • Follows federal, Joint Commission and organizational guidelines for sterile techniques and infection control.
  • Cleans and disinfects contaminated anesthesia machines, monitors, cables, and other key medical equipment.
  • Responsible for minor anesthesia equipment set-up.
  • Assists anesthesia providers and other health care members in responding to critical patient care situations.
  • Maintains hallways and supply and equipment rooms by adhering to fire codes and keeping them orderly and free of obstruction.
  • Checks portable oxygen tanks daily and replaces if necessary.
  • Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.
  • Supports Joint Commission readiness.
