About The Position

Animal Care Associate New Orleans Humane Law and Rescue is looking for a full-time Animal Care Associate to ensure that the highest level of care is provided to the animals in our shelter. This is a hands-on roll that requires a passion for animals of all shapes and sizes! The role provides the daily care for all animals in our shelter and includes: Cleaning, sanitizing, feeding and socializing with our animals. In addition to daily animal care tasks, the Animal Care Attendant is considered an essential team member and plays an integral role in the preparation and evacuation of our animals in the event of a Tropical Storm or Hurricane. Identifying ways to ensure the health and well-being of our animals is always our first priority! Bringing new ideas and suggestions to the table to improve the work Working with animals of all shapes, sizes and temperaments Just a couple of other important points: You should not be allergic to animals or nut products and must be able to work around all animals; you may be potentially subject to animal and insect bites and scratches. Must be able to work with industrial strength cleaners and disinfectants as we have a very strict cleaning protocol. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; push and pull heavy objects; bend, twist, reach; perform strenuous physical activities. Must be able to act as a first responder during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment substance screening
  • Candidates must successfully pass a drug screening which includes testing for marijuana. A valid medical marijuana card does not exempt a candidate from this requirement, and a positive test result will disqualify the candidate from the hiring process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Must be personable, outgoing, patient, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people.
  • Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • The ability to remain pleasant and calm even in stressful situations.
  • Should not be allergic to animals; must be able to work around all animals
  • Must be able to work in-person at the New Orleans location.
