Requirements

  • Three years of experience treating and handling animals in an animal hospital, humane society, or veterinary clinic environment
  • One year of supervisory or lead experience in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter setting
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units in Animal Health, Animal Science, Zoology, or related animal sciences may be substituted for up to one year of the required animal experience
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing and able to participate on the euthanasia team as required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a two-year curriculum in an accredited veterinary technology program that is certified by the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support Animal Health Technician staff, including recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions to ensure team effectiveness and accountability
  • Lead staff training and development, delivering initial training for new hires and coordinating ongoing education to ensure staff maintain proficiency as procedures and protocols evolve
  • Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency in all aspects of veterinary support, including surgical prep, anesthesia induction and monitoring, emergency care, euthanasia, vaccination, and epidemiology, while ensuring all technician tasks are completed to standard
  • Oversee daily clinic operations, organizing workflow to maintain surgical efficiency and ensuring proper sanitation and adherence to safety protocols aligned with Federal, State, and County regulations
  • Maintain accurate medical records and manage medical inventory and supplies, including controlled substances, ensuring proper documentation, regulatory compliance, secure storage, and availability to support clinical operations and quality patient care
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with clients, staff, and volunteers through clear communication, education, and active promotion of the department’s mission and services
  • Involved in and perform humane euthanasia of animals when required, in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and established protocols
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, responding to public inquiries and complaints with professionalism and empathy, while resolving complex customer service issues
  • Monitor and enforce safety and sanitation standards, regularly assessing clinic conditions and ensuring all staff follow proper procedures to maintain a safe, hygienic environment
  • Recommend and implement procedural improvements, contributing to the development of policies, programs, and protocols that enhance clinic operations and animal care outcomes
