About The Position

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Behavior & Training Animal Services Supervisor for our San Diego team! The Behavior &Training (B&T) Animal Services Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of the Behavior Center Animal Caregiver team and day-to-day operations of the Behavior Center Animal Care areas at the San Diego Campus. This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections. Requirements

  • Requires an associate’s degree in related field or completion of sufficient coursework to successfully perform the required duties of the position.
  • Requires three (3) years of full-time related, paid experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary environment, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
  • Must become an SDHS CET team within twelve (12) months of employment and maintain certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • CPDT certification or equivalent certification (CPDT-KA, KPA, IAABC, Dog Trainer Academy, ABC, etc.) preferred.

  • Decrease shelter intake by providing staff, volunteers and the community with ongoing support and resources.

Responsibilities

  • Perform supervisory functions including hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and issuing corrective action for B&T staff under the guidance of the B&T Animal Services Manager.
  • Train new Behavior Center caregivers and work side-by-side with staff to ensure the highest level of performance standards and department objectives are met.
  • Oversee routines for daily care, husbandry, medication and treatment administration and behavior support of animals at the Behavior Center in accordance with relevant policies.
  • Oversee daily monitoring of B&T animals and communicate accordingly with Behavior Center leadership and other necessary departments to report concerns.
  • Oversee the maintenance of daily observation logs.
  • Ensure that caregivers utilize and maintain daily observation logs for animals in our care that require such.
  • Ensure caregivers follow established procedures if symptoms of illness or behavior concerns arise.
  • Participate as an active member of the SDHS Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET) team, maintain CET certification and perform all aspects of humane euthanasia services.
  • Work collaboratively with the B&T Supervisor to ensure support and implementation of behavior plans for both dogs and cats, performing behavior evaluations for cats and dogs as needed.
