About The Position

The City of Bowie is seeking a motivated self-starter to join our Vehicle Maintenance Garage in the position of Apprentice Vehicle Maintenance Technician or Vehicle Maintenance Technician. Responsibilities will include maintaining and repairing gasoline and diesel powered automotive and related equipment, with significant time dedicated to performing skilled work in the repair of automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other motorized equipment. This includes diagnosing potential vehicle issues, assessing repair and maintenance needs, as well as performing recommended preventive maintenance. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who has an interest in advancing their career within the field of auto mechanics/vehicle maintenance. The successful candidate will have knowledge of: Standard tools, materials, and practices of the automotive The principles and mechanics of internal combustion engines. General occupational hazards and safety precautions. The safe and proper use of hand and power tools, acetylene torches, grinders and other tools and equipment of the trade.

Requirements

  • APPRENTICE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN : High School diploma or equivalent and/or completion of an approved
  • Some experience with automotive, mid-size and heavy-duty trucks and construction
  • Possession of a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • ASE certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of
  • VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN : High School diploma or
  • Three years of experience as a journeyman automotive
  • Knowledge of automotive, mid-size and heavy-duty trucks and construction
  • Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of
