About The Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is a skilled health care provider and has successfully completed an organized program of nursing education that certifies the nurse for an advanced practice role as an APRN in acute care pediatrics. As an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, the APRN will manage the care of pediatric patients, with rheumatology related or potential rheumatology related disorders under the medical supervision of the Rheumatology Physician. This position is additionally involved in education and consultation at various levels and is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS Department of Pediatrics and Division of Rheumatology. The Rheumatology APRN also interacts closely with other peer APRNS, specialty nurses, administrative staff, support staff, and other health care workers on a continual basis.

Requirements

  • Master's in Nursing
  • Current RN License
  • National Certification as an APRN in Pediatrics (primary or acute) or National Certification eligible as an APRN in Pediatrics (primary or acute) with certification obtained by hire date.
  • APRN License and prescriptive authority certification granted by the ASBN in accordance with all state and federal laws by the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including perinatal, past medical history, diagnostic tests, and physical examinations, identifying normal and abnormal variations across body systems.
  • Apply critical thinking and the nursing process to assess and address the physical, psychological, educational, and cultural needs of patients and their families.
  • Provide ongoing patient and family education, ensuring understanding of care plans and treatment options.
  • Accurately interpret health assessment data to guide individualized patient care and clinical decision-making.
  • Develop and implement long- and short-term care plans, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments.
  • Document health data, care plans, and patient progress according to policy standards.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care, adjusting plans as needed to achieve health goals.
  • Complete billing forms accurately, including diagnostic (ICD-9/ICD-10) and treatment (CPT) codes, in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication with referring physicians, allied health providers, and hospital staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Demonstrate effective delegation skills, ensuring quality patient care through collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development through continuing education (e.g., in-services, workshops, journals) to maintain and expand clinical expertise.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff, promoting positive patient outcomes and professional growth.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues to enhance overall team performance.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects to maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
