About The Position

The Aquatics Manager is responsible for the daily management of staff. This includes scheduling, training, and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the team to ensure smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols and effective operations of the Natatorium. They will give oversight into the development of programming and daily operations of the Aquatic areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Business Management or related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in pool management.
  • WSI and/or LGI certification or the ability to obtain within six months.
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s License and insured transportation.
  • American Red Cross First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard Training.
  • Must obtain Safe from Harm certification within 30 days of hire.
  • CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
  • Effectiveness in managing the operations of the aquatic department.
  • Successful development and implementation of aquatics programs.
  • Staff performance and development, including meeting safety certifications and training requirements.
  • Financial performance of the aquatic programs, including adherence to the budget.?
  • A strong commitment to promoting the mission of The Salvation Army with a passion for seeing the integration of Christian faith and services in a community center setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively in a dynamic environment. Ability to manage teams and solve problems professionally.
  • Strong knowledge of aquatics operations, staff supervision, and program development.
  • Ability to relate to individuals of various backgrounds and needs.
  • The ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.

  • Preferred 2 years management of a pool facility or program component with an annual budget of $1 million or more for which they were responsible.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the RJKCCC Management Team will give direction to the day-to-day operations of the aquatic programs and facilities.
  • Develop programming and monitor all programs relevant to the aquatic areas.
  • Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
  • Oversee and manage the Learn to Swim program.
  • Create and maintain an office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports, record of volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures, accounting of Red Cross or other certification programs and other reporting as required.
  • Assist with the annual budget preparation of the aquatic program and facilities. Give input as needed and be available to give updates about expenditures and other fiscal matters concerning the aquatic program.
  • Assist with the development of rental agreements and standardized usage fees for outside groups and private instructors who wish to rent the aquatic facilities. See that all rental agreements are processed according to Salvation Army procedures.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Support the swim team and assure Red Cross safety standards are enforced.
  • Work with Marketing Manager to promote program materials that attract new members and revenue. This includes opportunities for fund raisers in each program or sponsorship so that each program can lead to self-sufficiency within the Kroc Center program finance model.
  • Plan special events and fundraisers for the aquatics department to generate aquatics interest and support. Execute grants & support fundraising efforts for aquatics programs to ensure financial sustainability.

  • Develop cooperative ventures that engage other community groups in the development of programs related specifically to the aquatic facilities of the RJKCCC.
  • Ensure all areas have competent and trained employees, committed to the mission of RJKCCC and The Salvation Army.
  • Give staff supervision to aquatic support staff, including instructors, coaches, lifeguards and clerical staff.
  • Working in cooperation with the HR personnel, will process all hire, change, and personnel cases properly cases promptly.
  • Review all punch details reports for staff and make sure that they are processing daily, time exception reports, absence reports, and vacation requests.
  • Assist with all evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Assist, maintain and update the writing of job descriptions for support staff of the aquatic program.
  • Conduct, organize and supervise monthly in-service training for all aquatics staff
  • Maintain accurate training records and all certifications to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff and program participants. This includes writing of internal memos, emails, weekly department meetings, work schedules and one on one discussion.
  • Ensure that all staff are trained in Safe from Harm and are current on all required compliance training.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD), as assigned.
  • Responsible for preparing everything needed for the monthly in-service with Councilman & Hunsaker and ensuring it’s success.
  • Required to attend the monthly Kroc Affinity group virtual meeting, Managers meetings and all other meetings required
  • Work in a cooperative manner with on-site managers and directors of the RJKCCC program.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings when required.
  • Ensure that aquatic program staff maintains bulletin boards, which reflect appropriate information and are kept current.
  • Work with the Event Coordinator to schedule birthday parties and pool.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of the aquatic programs and facility usage both by private and on-site programs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Staff are trained in program related safety including Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED use and protocol.
  • Report all accidents and incidents with proper report and communication to direct supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate record for lifeguard certification.
  • Develop systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the aquatic program and facilities of the RJKCCC.
  • Develop, refine and practice emergency evacuation plans for the aquatic area.
  • Establish, conduct and maintain a written fire drill plan for the aquatic area.
  • Ensure that Worker’s Compensation Staff Injuries are reported timely and according to procedure as outlined in the HR Manual.
  • Ensure that accident and incident reports are recorded and reported in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis. Conduct regular safety inspections of aquatic equipment.
  • Work with the Facilities Department to develop, refine, and practice emergency evacuation plans for the aquatic area, including fire drills and safety procedures within the Kroc Center Emergency plan.
  • Monitor payroll, ensuring staff hours are recorded accurately and within the approved budget limits.
  • Ensure that scheduled hours via the schedule and actual hours worked does not exceed the maximum hours approved for their employee status per week.
  • Leadership is provided for other Kroc Center projects as assigned.
