About The Position

Hoffmann Architects + Engineers is seeking an entry- to mid-level architect or structural engineer to join its team in Midtown Manhattan. With opportunities to participate in all phases of the architectural and engineering processes—from investigation to design to construction administration—you’ll develop a greater understanding of how buildings are constructed, and why they fail. Requirements

  • First professional degree from an accredited architectural or engineering program OR An equivalent combination of academic and professional experience may be considered.
  • Architectural applicants must be enrolled in the Architectural Experience Program (AXP).
  • Entry-level engineering applicants must obtain the Engineer in Training (EIT) certification within the first three months of employment.
  • Mid-level engineering applicants must possess Engineer in Training (EIT) certification at time of employment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a strong emphasis on report writing.
  • Proficiency with relevant software applications (AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Willingness and ability to work on elevated areas of buildings, including roofs and facades, using swing staging, scaffolding, ladders, and manlifts.
  • Ability to travel regularly to job sites (i.e., a valid driver's license).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building enclosure, plaza, and/or parking rehabilitation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct building investigations and document existing conditions through photographs, measurements, field notes, and sketches.
  • Write survey and assessment reports summarizing observations, evaluations, and recommendations.
  • Conduct project-related research on construction materials, building systems, codes, and regulations.
  • Coordinate services provided by subconsultants and subcontractors.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate drawings, specifications, and other related project deliverables.
  • Modify project deliverables based on quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) feedback.
  • Compile construction document packages for bidding and construction.
  • Conduct bidding/procurement phase services, including pre-bid walkthroughs, responses to bidder inquiries, and bid reviews.
  • Track and review submittals, change orders, and requests for payment during construction.
  • Respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs) and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Visit the construction site to observe and document contractor progress and work quality.
  • Conduct progress meetings with the project team, clients, and contractors.
  • Prepare site visit reports and meeting minutes.
  • Assemble project closeout documentation, including warranties, record drawings, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, test reports, and final certifications.
  • Develop qualification materials, outline scopes of service, and prepare fee estimates for project proposals.
  • Meet project and assignment deadlines.
  • Adhere to the firm’s filing, tracking, and archiving standards.
  • Provide timely and accurate communication with management, project team members, and colleagues.
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive team atmosphere.
  • Develop building enclosure expertise.
  • Participate in professional/community organizations, activities, and continuing education programs.
  • Actively seek experience to fulfill requirements for licensure.
