About The Position

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with a strong reputation for technical excellence, collaboration, and community impact. GMC is seeking an Architect to support and help grow our Charlotte, NC office, currently a small but strategic presence within our Carolinas region. This role is ideal for an architect who is not only strong technically, but who also has the entrepreneurial drive to help build something meaningful—contributing to business development, mentoring future team members, and shaping the long-term vision of the Charlotte office. The Architect will lead the technical development and documentation of exceptional projects while playing an active role in expanding GMC’s presence and culture in the Charlotte market.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional architectural experience
  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture from an accredited program
  • Architectural licensure strongly preferred; unlicensed candidates must be actively pursuing licensure
  • Proficient in Revit and strong technical skills in detailing, consultant coordination, and construction documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for project needs
  • Must be local to the Charlotte area
  • In-office collaboration Monday–Thursday, with remote flexibility on Fridays

Responsibilities

  • Apply broad knowledge of architectural principles and best practices across diverse project types
  • Function effectively within multi-disciplinary teams across GMC’s regional offices
  • Lead technical development and documentation for projects of moderate complexity or portions of major projects
  • Understand and participate in the full project lifecycle: planning, design, documentation, and construction
  • Design and detail complete projects, systems, or components with a high level of technical rigor
  • Prepare and coordinate complete construction documents, including consultant coordination and Project Manuals/Specifications
  • Independently manage time and workload to meet project schedules
  • Uphold professional, ethical, and quality standards
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and existing-conditions assessments
  • Produce construction documents in Revit
  • Participate in client, contractor, and consultant communications
  • Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and support construction administration
  • Collaborate with leadership on opportunities to strengthen client relationships and expand local market presence
