Project Archivist Job Description: Arranges, describes and rehouses archives for Iron Mountain corporate customers.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team.
  • Ability to perform work requiring significant attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Accredited bachelor or master’s degree with Knowledge of archival standards and best practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn new job-related software and services.
  • Experience with metadata schema and tools.
  • Previous experience directing/managing the work of a paraprofessional staff or students in archives setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Meets deadlines and can handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility in hours, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in archives management and /or demonstrated relevant archival processing experience.
  • Post-secondary degree in history.
  • Experience processing a large collection.
  • Background in and experience with subject matter relating to automotive, industry, or other technical areas.
  • 2 to 4 years processing experience in a corporate archive
  • Experience with archival digitization of manuscripts, photography, A/V materials

Responsibilities

  • Arranges materials by existing order and/or develops logical series and sub-series to accommodate collection materials.
  • Works closely with the client to finalize arrangement and description.
  • Provides regular progress updates to the client.
  • Rehouses materials and performs routine preservation actions while arranging materials.
  • Identifies and removes extraneous and duplicate materials.
  • Identifies materials of significant historical value, in need of conservation treatment
  • Following local descriptive guidelines, describes series and sub-series in the collections finding aid to the file/item level
  • Creates subjects and keywords in addition to required file level metadata in consultation with the client.
  • Labels and barcodes boxes.
