About The Position

The Moran Company is pleased to partner with the United Negro College Fund to recruit the organization's next Area Development Director. General Background The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is a philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for students and raises general funds for 37 private historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). UNCF was founded in 1944 by William J. Trent, Frederick D. Patterson (then president of what became Tuskegee University), and Mary McLeod Bethune. Guided for more than 80 years by the principle, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste,” UNCF has raised more than $6 billion in private support and helped more than 500,000 students, awarding more than $65 million in student scholarships each year. UNCF is committed to closing the educational attainment gap by increasing postsecondary access for particularly low-income and first-generation students. Graduates of UNCF member institutions and scholarship recipients have included many leaders in the fields of business, politics, health care, and the arts. A few of the prominent UNCF alumni include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Alexis Herman, former U.S. Secretary of Labor; movie director Spike Lee; actor Samuel L. Jackson; and Dr. David Satcher, a former U.S. Surgeon General. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the work of the UNCF is supported by local offices throughout the North, the South, the Midwest, and the Far West of the United States. The Area Development Director (ADD) serves as an ambassador for UNCF in each local office, responsible for engaging donors and leveraging critical relationships to ensure revenue goals are achieved. The Area Development Director works remotely one day each week. The ADD serves as the UNCF brand ambassador for the state of Indiana and is responsible for managing the local office in Indianapolis, supervising one or more professionals and/or administrative staff, and ensuring new sources of unrestricted income generated from corporations, individuals, local community partners, and foundations that support the 37 UNCF member institutions.
