About The Position

The Area Manager – Leak Survey Operations is responsible for the safe, compliant, and predictable execution of Heath Consultants’ gas leak survey operations. This role owns day-to-day operational performance, workforce leadership, and client delivery for assigned leak survey contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, client SOPs, and Heath operational standards. The Area Manager serves as the primary operational owner for leak survey execution, translating contractual commitments into executable plans, maintaining schedule and date compliance, and ensuring accurate production and leak data capture in Heath’s operating systems. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong field presence, disciplined operational management, and a bias toward systems over heroics.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of successful experience managing field service operations, utilities, construction, or similar safety-critical environments.
  • Proven experience leading field crews and frontline supervisors.
  • Strong understanding of safety, compliance, and operational discipline in regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, workforce capacity, and operational risk.
  • High level of accountability, judgment, and decision discipline.
  • Proficiency with operational systems, reporting, and basic financial controls.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in field environments.

  • Experience in gas utility services, leak survey operations, or pipeline-related field work.
  • Familiarity with utility client SOPs and regulatory compliance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Own and enforce safety performance for all leak survey field operations; ensure zero tolerance for unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as client-specific SOPs and contractual requirements.
  • Lead incident response, near-miss reporting, and corrective action execution.
  • Maintain audit readiness and documentation quality at all times.
  • Deliver leak survey work safely, on schedule, and in compliance with all client dates and commitments.
  • Maintain sustained date compliance by proactively identifying risks and executing mitigation plans.
  • Plan and manage daily and weekly field operations, staffing levels, and productivity targets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely capture of production and leak data in the designated system of record.
  • Lead, coach, and hold Supervisors and field personnel accountable for performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and retention of qualified leak survey technicians.
  • Establish clear expectations, routines, and performance standards across operational areas.
  • Address performance issues promptly and consistently.
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for assigned leak survey clients.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with client representatives through reliable execution and transparent communication.
  • Escalate risks, changes, or constraints early to protect client trust and compliance outcomes.
  • Manage labor, overtime, and operating expenses within approved plans and budgets.
  • Align staffing and production plans to validated workload and productivity assumptions.
  • Support contribution margin performance through disciplined execution and productivity improvement, not rate erosion.
  • Enforce use of company systems and standard processes; avoid manual workarounds or parallel tracking.
  • Use operational data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Apply PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) discipline to correct issues and institutionalize learning.
