About The Position

This position is accountable for management and oversight of marine projects locations for Orion Marine Construction Gulf Coast. Responsibilities include involvement in the Project Management, Estimating, Operations, Planning, Execution, Policy Compliance, Business Development and Safety aspects of all projects. The incumbent will work closely with the Operations Manager, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Estimators, and Project Superintendents to ensure that projects are completed on-time and under budget. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Quality, Safety and Production (each of equal weight and importance) but, most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.

Requirements

  • A minimum of twelve (12) years marine construction industry experience is required with proven abilities and expertise in leadership, estimating, project management, operational planning, business development, customer focus and achieving business objectives.
  • The incumbent must also 1) be willing to travel, 2) have the ability to make business decisions based on available information, 2) be results driven to achieve Company business objectives, 3) be able to influence and motivate other members of the management team, 4) be self-motivated and be capable of leadership by example, and 5) have a high degree of personal integrity.
  • The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace.

  • The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
  • This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate.
  • The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.
  • Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

Nice To Haves

  • A B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the VP Operations and Operations Manager in Houston and local Project Team members to achieve business objectives for Orion’s construction projects along the Texas Gulf Coast.
  • Provides strategic direction to Project Managers and gives guidance on key decisions for all current projects in this area.
  • Develops and implements project plans based on bid proposals, cost estimates, project timetables, contractual guidelines, customer feedback, Company policies and regulatory safety and environmental statutes.
  • Oversees progress on awarded projects and provides guidance as may be required to ensure timely project completion below budget.
  • Serves as a lead management advocate of safe work practices and programs and works closely with the HS&E Manager to ensure employee safety at all project sites.
  • Utilizes effective leadership over direct reports to maximize employee productivity and contribution to on-going construction projects.
  • Approves and manages project spending budgets and holds employees assigned to these projects accountable for costs relative to established budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains on-going client relationships with customers and clients to investigate new business and project opportunities as they arise.
  • Ensures adherence to safety and operational procedures that promote employee safety and wellness.
  • Trains and develops project management personnel to provide management depth and skill base for continuation of efficient project operation.
  • Ensures participation in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
  • Proves to be qualified and physically able to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
