About The Position

The Mobile Loaves & Fishes Art House program exists at Community First! Village to create connection, inspiration and dignity in a beautiful and hospitable environment where neighbors and volunteers create products of pure goodness together in community. The Art House Coordinator is instrumental in fostering a creative, relational, and productive space where neighbors can explore their artistic talents, earn a dignified income, and build relationships with volunteers. This role will support studio operations, volunteers, product development, and trust-based relationships with artists and potential artists. It requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a heart for serving alongside individuals who have experienced homelessness. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Senior Programs Manager. Due to the nature and requirements of the position, hours are flexible to fit the need, but typically include 8am-5pm, Tuesday-Saturday. Some nights and weekends may be required. The Art House Coordinator will office at Community First! Village located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.

Requirements

  • Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals.
  • Multiple years of experience in Hospitality, Retail, Nonprofits, Church Ministry, or related fields.
  • Skilled in customer service and hospitality practices.
  • A desire and ability to consistently improve the customer experience.
  • Ability to remain poised under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented.
  • Experience in scheduling, organizing and leading groups of people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team while remaining self-motivated and dependable.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to take ownership of responsibilities and identify creative solutions, even when limited information and resources are available.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence in their work, and has experience leading others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
  • Comfortable teaching others and giving guidance.
  • Comfortable navigating conflict.
  • Must be proficient in the use of technology, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Suite, Asana, and Square.
  • Ability to maintain safety standards and enforce policies with consistency and professionalism.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform extended periods of work that involves bending, squatting, and/or standing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for a prolonged period.
  • Able to stay focused and effective in a high-interruption, fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working around strong odors from art materials and chemicals.
  • Must wear attire that is professional and presentable but suitable for messy or hands-on work; close-toed shoes are recommended for safety (but not required).
  • Ability to move about all phases of Community First! Village properties freely and comfortably.
  • Ability to drive a golf cart.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in art studios preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with basic event management a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a hospitable and relational studio environment by welcoming neighbors, volunteers, and guests; providing Art House orientation to first-time guests; and maintaining a calm, productive, and mission-aligned atmosphere.
  • Host and facilitate open studio sessions, guiding supply use, supporting artist projects, upholding studio policies, and processing payments accurately via Square.
  • Staff the Art House on Saturdays, expanding the program's capacity to host volunteers and provide opportunities for neighbors to explore their artistic talents.
  • Support and coach volunteers by matching individuals to appropriate tasks, providing hands-on instruction (particularly in ceramics and jewelry), and fostering meaningful engagement.
  • Maintain studio operations and production readiness by managing tools, materials, and kiln schedules; preparing clay and glazes; ensuring cleanliness; and upholding safety standards.
  • Operate and monitor kilns, including loading and unloading, tracking firing schedules, and reporting maintenance concerns to the Art House Steward.
  • Manage inventory and financial processes by tracking supplies, preparing market inventory (via Microsoft Forms), and reconciling POS transactions and cash drawer activity.
  • Facilitate Dignified Income contract work by ensuring quality standards, tracking deliverables, processing weekly contracts, and celebrating artist milestones.
  • Build consistent, encouraging relationships with neighbors, offering relational support, celebrating milestones, resolving conflicts with empathy, and reinforcing a culture of dignity and accountability.
  • Coordinate communication and scheduling using Rallyhood, Canva, signage, and verbal outreach to keep neighbors and volunteers informed and engaged.
  • Represent the Art House to visiting groups and tours by communicating the program's purpose in a compelling, audience-appropriate manner.
  • Support events and seasonal initiatives, including "Christmas in July," pop-up markets, and Village of Lights, assisting with setup, inventory preparation, transport, and on-site support.
  • Collaborate with the Art House Steward to develop new small-group service opportunities and contribute to the creation of fresh, seasonal "Made in Community" product offerings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
